Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about our salary calculator
How accurate are these salary calculations?+
Our calculations use official 2025 tax rates and social insurance contribution rates from government sources. They are highly accurate for standard employment situations with typical deductions. However, your actual take-home pay may vary based on additional income sources, eligible tax credits, regional tax variations, personal deductions, and other individual circumstances. We strongly recommend consulting with a qualified tax professional for personalized advice specific to your situation.
Is my salary data stored or shared?+
No. All calculations are performed entirely in your web browser using client-side JavaScript. We do not store, transmit, or have access to the salary figures you enter into our calculator. Your financial information remains completely private. We only collect anonymous usage statistics (like page views) to improve our service, but never your specific salary data.
Which countries are currently supported?+
We currently support six major countries: South Korea (KR), United States (US), United Kingdom (UK), Germany (DE), Japan (JP), and Canada (CA). Each country's calculator includes income tax, social insurance contributions, pension deductions, and local taxes where applicable. We're continuously working to add more countries based on user demand.
Can I compare salaries across different countries?+
Yes! Use our dedicated comparison tool to see how the same gross salary translates to take-home pay across multiple countries. This is particularly useful for professionals considering job offers in different countries or for companies benchmarking international compensation. Keep in mind that cost of living varies significantly between countries, so higher take-home pay doesn't always mean better purchasing power.
How often are tax rates updated?+
We update all tax rates, brackets, and contribution thresholds annually in January when new tax years begin. All calculations currently reflect 2025 tax law. If there are mid-year tax changes in any supported country, we make updates as soon as the new rates are officially published. You can always check the year displayed in your calculation results to confirm you're seeing current data.
Why don't my results match my actual paycheck?+
Several factors can cause differences: (1) Our calculator uses standard deductions, but you may have additional personal deductions or tax credits. (2) Regional or state/provincial taxes may apply that aren't captured in our calculations. (3) Your employer may withhold additional amounts for benefits, retirement plans, or union dues. (4) Year-to-date calculations can affect individual paychecks. (5) Some countries have complex tax adjustments that require professional calculation. Use our results as estimates, not exact predictions.
Does the calculator account for tax credits and deductions?+
Our calculator includes standard deductions and basic personal allowances for each country. However, it does not account for all possible tax credits such as child tax credits, education credits, mortgage interest deductions, charitable contributions, or specialized industry deductions. If you have significant additional deductions or credits, your actual tax liability will likely be lower than our estimate shows.
Can I use this for contract work or self-employment?+
Our calculator is designed primarily for traditional employment (W-2 in the US, PAYE in the UK, etc.). Self-employed individuals and contractors typically have different tax obligations, including self-employment taxes, quarterly estimated tax payments, and business expense deductions. If you're self-employed, our results will not be accurate for your situation, and you should consult with an accountant familiar with your country's rules for self-employment.
