Introduction

Welcome to Global Salary Calculator ("we," "our," or "us"). We are committed to protecting your privacy and ensuring transparency about how we handle information when you use our salary calculation services. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights regarding your information.

Information We Collect

Calculator Input Data:

When you use our calculator you enter a gross salary and a country, and on the comparison page a currency and payment frequency. There is no account and no form submission of that information — your salary itself is never sent to, or stored by, anything we operate.

One exception, added 2026-09-29: we run two small, anonymous counters — how many pages were loaded today, and how many times each country-and-salary-band combination (never the exact salary, only a band such as "$75k–100k") has been calculated recently. Both are plain incrementing numbers with no visitor identifier attached, and each count expires automatically within a few days. These counters cannot be used to identify you or reconstruct anything you entered.

Second exception, added 2026-10-01: on result pages you can add your own spending item (for example "Lunch, ₩12,000") to see its pre-tax equivalent, and on the pre-tax cost page you can name what you are buying. When you press Add on a result page, or Calculate on the pre-tax cost page with an item name filled in, we store that item name and amount together with the currency you entered it in, the country, your salary band (never the exact salary) and the date (day only). On the pre-tax cost page, leaving the item name blank stores nothing. Nothing else is attached — no IP address, no cookie or visitor identifier, no time of day — so a saved item cannot be traced back to you. We use these entries in aggregate, for example to choose more realistic example prices. Item names that look like an email address, a link or a long number (such as a phone or card number) are rejected and not stored; please don't type personal information into an item name. Because entries carry no identifier, we cannot find or delete a specific person's entry; only the most recent 50,000 entries are kept. Typing alone sends nothing — only pressing the button does.

Where the calculation happens depends on the page, and the difference matters. The comparison page runs entirely in your browser. Result pages are rendered on the server: for common salaries the page was already built in advance, and for any other figure it is computed when you request it. In that second case the salary does reach our server as part of the request — it simply is not written down.

One important caveat, which we would rather state plainly than let you discover: result pages carry the salary in the web address — for example /result/us/90000. A web address is part of every request your browser makes, so that number can appear in ordinary server request logs and in referrer headers, the same way any URL does. This is a consequence of making results linkable and shareable, not of us collecting anything, but it does mean the figure is not private in the way a purely in-browser calculation would be.

The comparison page does not have this property, because nothing you enter there appears in the address. Where the interface offers you a link to copy, it warns you that the link contains the amount.

Automatically Collected Information:

Like most websites, we automatically collect certain information when you visit our site:

  • Usage Data: Pages visited, time spent on each page, click patterns, and navigation paths through our website
  • Device Information: Browser type and version, operating system, device type (mobile, tablet, desktop), screen resolution
  • Location Data: Approximate geographic location based on IP address (country and city level only, not precise location)
  • Referral Information: The website or search engine that referred you to our site

How We Use Your Information

We use the collected information for the following purposes:

  • Service Provision: To provide and maintain our salary calculation services, ensuring accurate tax calculations based on current tax laws
  • Analytics: To understand how users interact with our website, which features are most popular, and identify areas for improvement. Some of these events record a rough income level so we can tell which salary ranges the site is actually useful for — as a band, never as the amount you typed. An event carries a value like 75k–100k or KRW 40M–60M. We consider sending an individual's income to a third-party analytics service an unreasonable price for that insight, so our events never include it. One limit applies: like any analytics tool, Google Analytics records the address of each page you view, and on result pages that address contains the salary (see the caveat about web addresses above)
  • Performance Optimization: To improve website loading speed, fix bugs, and enhance user experience
  • Content Personalization: To show relevant content and examples based on your geographic region
  • Legal Compliance: To comply with applicable laws, regulations, and legal processes

Cookies and Tracking Technologies

We use cookies and similar tracking technologies to enhance your experience on our website. Cookies are small text files stored on your device that help us remember your preferences and understand how you use our site.

Types of Cookies We Use:

  • Essential Cookies: None. The site itself does not set cookies to work, and the calculators do not remember your inputs between visits
  • Analytics Cookies: Help us understand visitor behavior through services like Google Analytics, measuring page views, session duration, and user paths
  • Advertising Cookies: Used to deliver relevant advertisements and measure their effectiveness through services like Google AdSense

On iPhone and iPad Safari we may show a short tip about adding this site to your Home Screen. If you close it, the time you closed it is kept in your browser's local storage on that device so the tip stays hidden for 30 days. It never leaves your device and contains nothing about you or your salary; clearing your browsing data removes it.

Third-Party Services and Disclosure

We work with trusted third-party service providers to operate our website effectively:

  • Google Analytics 4 (GA4): For website analytics and understanding user behavior patterns. Google Analytics 4 may collect data about your device, browsing actions, and usage patterns. It is only loaded when a measurement ID is configured for the site; where our own events include an income level, they send a band such as 75k–100k and never the salary you entered. Its page-view records do include the page address, which on result pages contains the salary
  • Vercel Analytics: For aggregate traffic and performance measurement provided by our hosting platform, and always active. It collects anonymized page-level metrics and does not use cookies to identify individual visitors
  • Google AdSense: For displaying advertisements that support our free service. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the Internet. As with any page that shows ads, the ad request includes the address of the page you are viewing. How to opt out is described under Advertising and your choices
  • Upstash (Redis database): Stores the two anonymous counters described above — today's page-view total and a per-country-and-salary-band tally, each expiring automatically within a few days — and the spending items you choose to add (item name, amount, currency, country, salary band, date). It never receives your exact salary, your IP address is not stored with any record, and there is no way to look up what any individual visitor did
  • Exchange rates (frankfurter.dev): The country comparison page always converts your salary between currencies, and the single-country calculator does the same whenever you choose a currency different from the country you are calculating for. The pre-tax cost page requests the rates only when the purchase currency differs from the currency of the salary country. In each case your browser requests today's European Central Bank reference rates from frankfurter.dev. That request contains no salary, no input of yours, and no identifier — but like any web request it does reveal your IP address to that service. If the request fails, the page falls back to a rate stored with the site and tells you it is doing so. The UAE dirham is not among those reference rates, so it is derived from its fixed US dollar peg, which is stored with the site — no additional request is made for it
  • Content Delivery Networks (CDN): To ensure fast and reliable website performance globally

Advertising and your choices

Ads on this site are served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners may use cookies to show you ads based on your visits to this and other websites. You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of other third-party vendors' use of cookies for personalized advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices. Opting out does not remove ads; the ads you see become less tailored to you. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational security measures to protect your information from unauthorized access, alteration, disclosure, or destruction. The only database we operate holds the two anonymous counters and the anonymous spending items described above — no exact salary figures, no visitor identifiers, nothing that could be tied to an individual — so there is no store of personal financial information here to be breached. The exception we noted above is the salary appearing in result page addresses, which means it can reach ordinary request logs; those logs are operated by our hosting provider under their own retention and security terms, not by us.

Your Rights and Choices

You have several rights regarding your information:

  • Right to Access: Request information about what data we may have collected about your visits
  • Right to Delete: Request deletion of any personal data we have collected
  • Right to Opt-Out: Disable cookies through your browser settings or opt out of personalized advertising (see Advertising and your choices). To opt out of Google Analytics specifically, you can install the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on
  • Right to Object: Object to processing of your data for direct marketing purposes
  • Do Not Track: This site does not currently change its behavior in response to a browser's Do Not Track signal. Use the opt-out tools above instead

International Data Transfers

Our website is accessible globally. Information collected may be transferred to and processed in countries other than your country of residence. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place to protect your information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
